During 2014-2016, WMU is challenging Christians to fulfill the Great Commission by focusing on post-traumatic stress disorder (ptsd). You may have just come out of studying the numerous human exploitation topics WMU focused on for the last four years. It is possible that many of the people who have been directly affected by human exploitation could have developed PTSD. Maybe your church has started a ministry to deter the lasting effects of human exploitation. Knowledge of PTSD would be essential for your work. WMU and each age-level organization will receive appropriate audience content in their materials.

What is PTSD?

PTSD is a result of not only combat or rape but also nearly any incident in which a person feels gravely threatened or feared for the life of another.

Many people experience some sort of trauma in their lifetime (60 percent of men and 50 percent of women), but only 7-8 percent of the population develops PTSD. It can occur at any age after the first year of life and symptoms can begin within the first three months after the trauma.

What can I Do?

We are currently gathering resources for you and your church to use during this initiative. Please check back with us for a list of resources, links and ideas.
