Devotional: We Pass This Way But Once

by Earl Ann Bumpus on January 31, 2021 in Blog

A brief quotation that has been around for years and attributed to several different people…Victor Hugo, George Eliot, Stephen Grellet, and others.

I shall pass through this world but once.
Any good therefore that I can do,
Or any kindness that I can show to any human being,
Let me do it now.
Let me not defer nor neglect it,
For I shall not pass this way again.

Showing kindness to all - what a timely reminder for the days we’re living in. And we may need this reminder more often than we would like to admit, because we can be easily distracted or go in circles to meet a deadline, letting opportunities slip by.

Paul reminds us, “As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men.” (Galatians 6:10).

How can we best carry this out today?

  1. Be nice.

  2. Be kind.

  3. Slow down and take time to consider what others are going through.

  4. Ask the Lord to give you insight into how you can encourage and help others.

  5. Do it - even if it may not be the most convenient time for you.

  6. Allow doing good to all men to become a lifestyle.

  7. Today is the day! Let God lead you to use your God-given abilities for the enrichment of others.

  8. Be the heart, hands, and feet of Christ to others.

What a difference a Christ-follower could make in our world today!
